Canton Rotary - Service, Recognition, and Leadership Awards

In 1989 Rotary Club of Canton President Garland Pinholster appointed Horace Richards and Marguerite Cline to serve with him on a committee to set the criteria, plan for the presentation of and establish a selection process for an award to be given for service to our community.

The award was named for Lamar Haley, an outstanding Rotarian and community leader, who had recently died after a tragic automobile accident. The award will be given annually in memory of his legacy of exemplary community service. The Lamar Haley Community Service Award recognizes citizens who have exemplary volunteer service. Recipients may be non-Rotarians or Rotarians.

EVALUATION GUIDELINES

The Lamar Haley Community Service Award recognizes citizens who have exemplary volunteer service. Recipients may be non-Rotarians or Rotarians. Criteria for selection are based on exemplary volunteer service in the community which was without compensation and was for a responsible amount of time to merit recognition.

SELECTION OF THE RECIPIENT

The nomination forms including the requirements for receiving the award are on the website of Rotary Club of Canton and are distributed to the membership at a regularly scheduled club meeting. Rotary Club of Canton members make nominations and give supporting information and background information about the proposed recipient.

After reviewing the nominations the Awards Committee will select one or more recipient(s) annually to be presented the award. No more than three (3) Lamar Haley Community Service Awards are given annually. A couple may receive an award jointly.

PRESENTATION

An appropriate plaque will be presented to the honoree at the annual awards presentation luncheon at a regularly scheduled meeting of Rotary Club of Canton.
